NASHVILLE- Tennessee consumers who were sent restitution checks last year from the LA Investors settlement but didn't cash them can now claim their funds through the State's Unclaimed Property program.
In December 2024, the Tennessee Attorney General's Office began distributing restitution to consumers who responded to deceptive mailers from a company called LA Investors doing business as "Local Records Office." Local Records Office offered consumers a copy of the deed to their home for $89 even though consumers can get copies of their property records from their county Register of Deeds for cents per page.
Checks for a partial refund were sent to nearly 4,000 consumers. Any checks that consumers did not cash expired in May 2025, and the funds for those uncashed checks have now been sent to the Unclaimed Property office in the Tennessee Department of the Treasury.
Any consumers who still wish to claim their partial refund should visit Unclaimed Property's website, fill out the form, and provide the requested documentation. Consumers will need to provide documentation of their identity and residency when they request their unclaimed funds.
Access the Unclaimed Property Website.
