Barre Nurse Charged with Drug Diversion

The Attorney General's Office today announced that Brittney Roberts (also known as Brittney Metivier), 36, of Barre, Vermont, was arraigned on one felony count of Fraud or Deceit Involving a Regulated Drug. The charge is the result of an investigation led by the Vermont Secretary of State's Office of Professional Regulation (OPR) and referred to the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit for prosecution.

Ms. Roberts was employed as a licensed practical nurse in the endoscopy unit at the University of Vermont's Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC). Between January and October of 2025, Ms. Roberts is alleged to have fraudulently obtained Fentanyl, Meperidine and Midazolam, controlled substances intended for administration to medical patients, for her own personal use. In Vermont, felony drug diversion holds the potential for a maximum of two years of incarceration, a fine of $5,000, or both.

Ms. Roberts pleaded not guilty at her arraignment today in Vermont Superior Court, Washington Criminal Division. The Court, Judge Daniel P. Richardson presiding, imposed conditions including attending future hearings, apprising the Court and counsel of her contact information, and fingerprinting with the Vermont State Police.

The Attorney General's Office emphasizes that individuals charged with a crime are legally presumed innocent until their guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The remaining 25 percent, totaling $499,260 for FY 2026, is funded by the State of Vermont.
