Department of State shares reimbursement options for customers of two recently closed driver education businesses in Portage and Jackson

LANSING, Mich. - In response to multiple inquiries from customers adversely affected by the unexpected closure of two driving schools in Portage and Jackson, the Michigan Department of State (MDOS) today shared options for customers who wish to seek reimbursement.

In August, two businesses owned and operated by Craig Sanford closed unexpectedly:

  • E Z Way Driver Training Inc., located at 5060 Lovers Ln. in Portage
  • Driver Education the E Z Way Inc., located at 1226 E McDevitt Ave. in Jackson

While MDOS does not have the authority to issue refunds, families seeking reimbursement for training fees may consider the following options:

  1. Contact your bank or credit card company - If payment was made by credit or debit card, you may request a chargeback or dispute the charge.
  2. File a claim in Small Claims Court - This allows you to pursue recovery of funds directly from the business owner.
  3. Submit a consumer complaint with the Michigan Attorney General - Complaints can be filed online at Michigan Attorney General Consumer Complaints.

Customers of the two closed businesses should retain all receipts, contracts, and related documentation to support any claim.
