Citywide Phase 1 parking ban (major roads and bus routes) takes effect December 17 at 7 p.m.

The City of Edmonton has declared a citywide Phase 1 parking ban for arterial roads, collector roads, bus routes, and roads within business improvement areas starting December 17 at 7 p.m.
"Due to the current accumulation and the additional snowfall we expect to receive on Wednesday, a Phase 1 parking ban is necessary for keeping roadways safe," said Val Dacyk, General Supervisor of Infrastructure Field Operations, Parks and Roads Services. "To facilitate the clearing by our plows and graders, it is imperative that these routes remain unobstructed by parked vehicles. Crews are actively clearing these roadways 24 hours a day, and we anticipate the parking ban to be in effect for three-to-five days."
During the Phase 1 parking ban, parking is prohibited on arterial roads, collector roads, bus routes and roads within business improvement at all hours until the clearing is complete. EPark zones are not active during Phase 1 of the parking ban while these areas are cleared. These roadways include those marked with white "Seasonal No Parking" signs.
Enforcement
Vehicles parked on Phase 1 parking ban roadways may be ticketed $250 and/or towed. These roadways include downtown hills, arterial roads, collector roads and bus routes.
Where to Park
Residents may continue to park on residential streets.
Edmontonians are reminded that parking is allowed on roads once their snow removal has been completed as long as parking is allowed there normally. Residents can refer to the Roadways Snow Clearing Map for current clearing status of roadways or subscribeto receive free email or text notifications for up to five locations.
Sidewalk Snow Clearing
Residents are reminded to keep their communities safe by removing snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property after a snowfall. A clear sidewalk reduces the risk of slips, falls and injuries, especially for senior neighbours, children, and those with mobility challenges.
If you are unable to clear ice from the sidewalk surrounding your property right away, temporarily lay down sand or gravel while those areas are being chipped and removed. Free sand is available at community sandboxes placed across the city. Failure to clear sidewalks could result in a fine of $100 plus any remedial clean-up costs the City may occur as outlined in Bylaw 14600. If a sidewalk remains unclear and poses a danger to your community, send a report through the City's 311 service for enforcement and follow-up.
Parking Ban Completion
A separate announcement will be made to indicate the conclusion of the Phase 1 parking ban. If the City determines that a Phase 2 parking ban for residential and industrial roadways is necessary, an additional announcement will occur.
Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and maintain a safe following distance between vehicles. Give snow and ice clearing crews room as they work to get the roads cleared.
