[CHICAGO, IL] - Combat Veteran and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today visited Hope Manor II, one of the first large-scale supportive housing developments for Veterans and their families, highlighting her commitment to affordable housing and access to affordable housing for our Veterans. Duckworth also met with leaders from Volunteers of America and female Veteran residents of Hope Manor II to hear firsthand about the challenges Veterans face in securing safe, affordable housing. Photos from the visit can be found on the Senator's website.
"It shouldn't be difficult for our nation's Veterans to access quality, safe and affordable housing," said Duckworth. "While President Trump has fired more Veterans from federal jobs than any other president in history and slashed critical VA benefits, I will keep fighting to ensure Veterans and all Americans have access to the affordable housing options they deserve."
Duckworth has been an outspoken advocate working to expand affordable housing opportunities for Veterans and decrease Veteran homelessness rates. Last week, she joined the Center for American Progress (CAP), U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) for a policy summit where they discussed common-sense solutions to address our nation's housing shortage and lower housing costs for middle-class families and Veterans. The Senator recently helped introduce legislation to protect Veterans and low-income families from housing discrimination.
