On December 26, 2025, members of the Winnipeg Police Service's K9 Unit arrested a 16-year-old youth after the stolen vehicle he was driving collided with a transit bus.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., K9 officers attempted to stop a 2014 Mazda 3 GT near Dufferin Avenue and Salter Street. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and fled from police.

While being followed by police, the vehicle drove through a stop sign at Andrews Street and Selkirk Avenue and collided with the side of a transit bus. The 16-year-old driver fled from the heavily damaged Mazda, but was quickly arrested after a brief foot pursuit. There were no injuries reported as a result of the collision.

During the search of the Mazda, assisting North District General Patrol officers located a loaded .45 calibre Glock 21 with an extended magazine and weapon light. The handgun, noted to have obliterated serial numbers, was seized as evidence. The Mazda was also determined to have been stolen earlier in the day.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and have charged the 16-year-old with the following offences:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2

He was detained in custody.
