41th Bio-Planet store opens in Herent

On Wednesday 8 April 2026, Bio-Planet will open its 40^th store, located in Herent (Flemish Brabant). The new store offers customers an extensive range of around 4,000 healthy, organic and sustainable products. As in all other Bio-Planet stores, the assortment is fully aligned with a conscious lifestyle, with a focus on making healthy and balanced choices for every dietary preference.

Healthy and natural food and personal care

The new Bio-Planet, located on Mechelsesteenweg in Herent, replaces the former Okay store. With a surface area of 556 m², Bio-Planet Herent offers ample space for a broad and varied range of healthy and natural products, across the different departments of the store, including meat, vegetarian options and cheese; fresh fruit and vegetables; drinks; personal care and household products. In addition, there is a wide selection of, among others, high-fibre and high-protein products, as well as gluten-free, lactose-free and sugar-free or low-sugar options. In short: something for everyone. Bio-Planet continues to support making healthy choices at any time of day, now also in Herent.

Customers can also find flowers and plants at Bio-Planet Herent. The aim is to offer a 100% chemical-free assortment, grown in Belgium and the Netherlands according to the strictest standards. Bio-Planet is the only retailer offering flowers and plants with a bio or MPS certificate, a recognised label indicating how sustainably growers operate. In this way, Bio-Planet adds a touch of greenery to customers' weekly shopping.

Freshly baked bread

A key asset of the new store is its bakery, where bread is baked on site several times a day. A number of breads, baguettes and pastries are offered freshly baked to the customers. All other breads and viennoiserie are supplied directly by organic bakery De Trog, a long-standing partner of Bio-Planet.

Sustainability first

Sustainability is central to Colruyt Group, and Bio-Planet is no exception. As the new store opens in the same building as the former Okay store, many materials were reused during renovation. The store is equipped with LED lighting and is entirely fossil-free, meaning no natural gas or fuel oil is used for heating. Refrigeration units operate on propane, a natural and more sustainable refrigerant than traditional alternatives, reducing CO_₂ emissions by 90%. The heat released by these systems is recovered and reused to heat the store, with additional heating provided electrically.

Sustainability is also considered in the store's car park. In addition to the 52 parking spaces in the car park, there are also 4 charging points for electric vehicles. For customers who come to do their shopping by bike, there is a partially covered bicycle shed, as well as a bicycle charging point.

Curious to discover the new Bio-Planet in Herent? On Tuesday 7 April, the store will open its doors for an opening reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is the perfect opportunity to explore the store, meet the team and experience Bio-Planet's healthy concept. From Wednesday 8 April onwards, everyone is welcome to do their shopping there.
