Congresswoman Pou Condemns Administration Freeze of Gateway Tunnel Funding

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09), one of two New Jersey members on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, today condemned the announcement by the Trump administration that it was freezing federal funding for the Gateway Tunnel, as well as other projects in the Tristate area, to punish the region for the Republican government shutdown.

"This extortion and retribution is gross. Despite controlling all branches of the federal government, the administration is trying to deliberately harm people in New Jersey to cover up a government shutdown they precipitated," said Congresswoman Pou. "But this is not some minor political game. Disrupting the tunnel project sabotages an entire region, harms millions of commuters and should outrage every single person in our great state. I will fight this as a member of the House Transportation Committee."

As a member of the House transportation committee, Congresswoman Pou has made delivering funding for New Jersey roads, bridges, tunnels, and mass transit a top priority during her first term.
