LAREDO, Texas - Felix Alcorta-Rodriguez, a 63-year-old criminal illegal alien from Mexico, passed away in ICE custody June 19. Alcorta was found unresponsive at 9:13 p.m. at the Webb County Detention Center. WCDC staff called medical emergency and began lifesaving measures. Emergency medical services arrived and transported Alcorta by ambulance to the Laredo Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 10:02 p.m. His official cause of death is currently pending an autopsy.
Alcorta entered the United States illegally and without inspection at an unknown date and time. ICE arrested Alcorta on June 16 following his release from custody from the Webb County Jail. Alcorta was arrested by the Laredo Police Department on May 9 due to an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court for a Feb. 5, 2018, driving while intoxicated arrest. Alcorta has previous arrests for unauthorized use of a vehicle, 10 counts of unauthorized disposal of a lead acid battery, and driving while intoxicated.
While in custody he received medical care and was seen by medical professionals.
Consistent with ICE policy, ERO notified the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the DHS Office of Inspector General, and the ICE Office of Professional Responsibility via the Joint Intake Center. ERO also notified the Consulate General of Mexico in accordance with international and domestic laws, as well as Alcorta's next of kin or other designated contact.
