Apply for Durham's Fall 2025 Planning Academy Before Sept. 26

Want to better understand how Durham grows and how you can help shape its future? The Durham Planning Academy is a free, two-day interactive course that gives residents an inside look at the City's planning and development process.

  • Session Dates: Saturdays, October 25 & November 1 | 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Free with lunch provided | Spanish interpretation available

American Tobacco Waterline Replacement Project Enters Phase 2

Construction began September 15, 2025, on Phase 2 of the American Tobacco Waterline Replacement Project - the final phase of our multi-year effort to upgrade aging water and sewer infrastructure near the American Tobacco Campus.

Planned traffic impacts (Week 9/22 & 9/29):

  • Southbound lane closure in Willard St between Yancey St and Blackwell St
  • Eastbound lane closure in Pettigrew St between Chapel Hill St and Blackwell St
  • Lane shifts in Chapel Hill St between Willard St and Pettigrew St

Compost Bin Sale Extended to September 26

Did you know a single compost bin can divert up to 650 pounds of organic waste from landfills each year? As part of Durham's commitment to sustainability, we've extended our sale for residents to purchase discounted backyard compost bins.

Orders must be placed by Friday, September 26, and pickup is scheduled for Thursday, October 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1833 Camden Ave., Durham, NC.

Sign-Up to Volunteer for Move-A-Bull City

Durham's streets are going car-free - and we need your help to make it happen!

Move-A-Bull City, our biggest open streets celebration, is taking over Blackwell, Corcoran, and Foster Streets on Sunday, October 5 from 12-4 p.m. for an afternoon full of movement, music, art, and community.

We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help bring the energy and keep the event running smoothly, so apply today!

Donate Socks to Help Durham Kids

Join Welcome Baby, Durham Cooperative Extension, and Durham Parks and Recreation to help reach our goal of 4,000 pairs of socks during the 2nd Annual Socktember Sock Drive this month.

Donate children's socks for newborn through 9 years old at 721 Foster Street or any of DPR Recreation Centers. All donations will be shared with families during the weekly Giving Closet.
