San Mateo County ― Caltrans is continuing paving work on the bike and pedestrian trail located west of State Route 1 between Wavecrest Road in Half Moon Bay and Surfers Beach near El Granada. Trail uses may cross to the east side of the roadway at signalized intersections, or they may use the provided on-demand shuttle service to bypass the closed portions of the trail.

Paving has been completed between Wavecrest Road and Wave Avenue. Crews will complete the paving work according to the following schedule:

Tuesday, June 23, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

  • Russeau Francais to Roosevelt

Wednesday, June 24, 8 p.m. - 5 a.m.

  • Belleville to State Route 92
  • Surfers Beach

Pedestrians and cyclists may call the shuttle driver, Jose Excobar, to schedule pick-up at 650-219-2007, during daytime hours on Tuesday, June 23. Signage with shuttle information will be placed onsite.

Temporary Striping Notice

Drivers may notice temporary striping on State Route 1 during this phase of the project. Once the final layer of hot asphalt is laid down, crews will lay down permanent striping. Final paving is scheduled for late July, and final striping will take place in August.

Known as the SR-1 Multi-Asset Roadway Rehabilitation Project, the $46.7M project encompasses upgrading assets (such as pavement, guardrails, curbs, and crosswalks) that are nearing the end their service lives. Assets will be brought up to ADA standards, and Class II bike lanes will be added to both the north- and south-bound sides of the roadway. The project will continue through the summer of 2027. This work is funded by the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP). SHOPP is the State Highway System's "fix-it-first" program that funds the repair and preservation on the state's highway system.

All work is weather dependent. Please drive with caution. Thank you for your patience as we work to maintain our state's highways, bridges, and tunnels.
