Kean Tours Springfield PD Upgrades with Local Leadership

(July 28, 2026) SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Today, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) visited the Springfield Police Department alongside Mayor Harris Laufer and Police Chief John Cook to gain insight into the critical need for funding to refurbish the facility. Congressman Kean secured $700,000 for the Springfield PD through Community Project Funding in a key House Appropriations bill.

"Our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day deserve updated and efficient facilities so they can best serve our community," said Congressman Kean. "I am proud to fight to bring this critical federal funding back to New Jersey and am committed to ensuring that police departments like Springfield have the resources that they need to keep our families safe. I have always and will continue to back the blue."

"Upgrades to the Springfield Police Department not only make the lives of our law-enforcement officers easier, but it makes our community safer," said Mayor Laufer. "This money if approved will make Springfield a safer community and we appreciate the Congressman's efforts.

"The upgrades that this grant will assist our department with, and the Township as a whole, have been needed for some time and these funds, if approved, will enable the Township to improve not only the Police Department but also to make needed improvements for the building overall," said Police Chief Cook. "This will enable us to work more efficiently and better serve the people of Springfield. Lieutenant Dan Zieser applied for this grant earlier this year and Congressman Kean's support and efforts in working to make this a reality are beyond appreciated."

In July, Congressman Kean announced that 18 Community Project Funding requests made by his office totaling $17,765,906, are included in key House funding bills for the upcoming fiscal year.
