Recently, the press conference for the 2026 International Conference on Basic Sciences (ICBS 2026) was held in Beijing, where the 2026 ICBS Medal and Frontiers of Science Award winners were officially announced.
Among them, Nanjing University School of Physics alumnus and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wang Yifang, was awarded the Samuel C. C. Ting Physics Medal. In addition, alumnus of the School of Chemistry and Foreign Academician of the CAS, Zhenan Bao, was awarded the the Chien-Shiung Wu Medal in Engineering.
As a significant award established in 2026, the Fundamental Science Medals honor scientists worldwide who have made revolutionary and groundbreaking achievements in fundamental science fields, recognizing their outstanding contributions to scientific progress. The awards encompass three disciplines: mathematics, physics, and engineering.
