Deep Purple postponed the remainder of their tour after frontman Ian Gillan was hospitalized with an unspecified medical issue.
The band announced the decision Monday (Nov. 2). Gillan, 81, addressed the situation in a statement shared on Instagram, revealing that he required urgent medical attention while in Germany.
"I was hoping that I would get the all clear to hang on until the end of the tour, but there are very serious risks involved in me doing so," he wrote. "As a result, and on the advice of my medical team and management we have made the decision to postpone the rest of the European/UK tour until further notice."
Gillan apologized to fans for the inconvenience, adding that the decision was "in the best interest all round." No further details about his condition have been shared.
The postponed dates include shows in Germany, the Netherlands, France and the U.K, though the classic rockers still have a South American tour scheduled to begin Dec. 5 in Brazil.
