On January 16, 2026, at approximately 4:14 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of a vehicle off the roadway with debris in the roadway north of the intersection of Marksheffel Road and Drennan Road. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and located the deceased driver outside the vehicle from a suspected ejection.
Based on the circumstances, the CSPD Major Crash Team (MCT) responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. The initial investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound on Marksheffel Road and drifted off the west side of the road. The vehicle rolled at least once, and the driver was ejected. At this time, impairment is unknown, and speed appears to be a contributing factor.
On January 16, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased driver and identified him as 22-year-old Esteban Solorio.
This was the 2nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, we had zero traffic fatalities. In the last 365 days, there have been 55 fatalities in Colorado Springs.
