On 6 February in Chișinău, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu. The meeting focused on bilateral relations, Moldova's EU integration process, and strengthening resilience to Russian hybrid attacks.
"Moldova, like Lithuania, is a target of deliberate Russian disinformation and hybrid attacks. One thing is clear: the Kremlin's primary objective is to undermine the European aspirations of the Moldovan people and weaken public support for the country's EU membership. We cannot allow the Kremlin's narratives to defeat us. The EU must join forces to help Moldova carry out structural reforms and prevent Russian influence," said Budrys.
The Minister underlined that Moldova had gained valuable experience in countering hybrid attacks and hostile interference aimed at disrupting its democratic elections in 2024 and 2025. Lithuania and Moldova contribute to a more resilient and secure Europe by exchanging lessons learned and sharing successful practices.
Budrys expressed his support for the choice and commitment of the Moldovan people to a European future and confirmed that Lithuania will continue to actively support Moldova's aspirations to ensure the country's security and prosperity.
During the conversation, Budrys and Sandu also discussed support for Ukraine, the need to strengthen Moldova's democratic institutions, and to continue the reform of the justice system.
