The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has visited the areas affected by the fire in La Mierla (Guadalajara), which is still burning and has become the largest forest fire in the history of Castilla-La Mancha. Speaking from the site, the head of Executive once again called on political forces to unite in a major State Pact against the Climate Emergency, stating that it is "imperative" to reach an agreement that translates into "laws, measures and financial resources to safeguard the life, safety and prosperity of our territory".

"I urge you to set aside partisan politics and focus on a common enemy, which is the climate emergency", because "the climate emergency kills and causes many regions and territories to lose their prosperity". "And that means," he explained, "not only putting out fires, but also implementing prevention and awareness-raising policies, allocating sustainable financial resources throughout the year, and also committing to policies that mitigate the climate emergency and help us adapt to it."

He also emphasised the need to "raise public awareness" and "not to trivialise the effects of the climate emergency, but to take them very seriously", because this "is not about politics, it is not about ideology. It is about science, and data". In this regard, he pointed out that, so far this year, Spain has suffered 22 major fires, which have burnt more than 100,000 hectares - four times the area burned by this time last year.

The President visited the Forward Command Post in Tamajón, accompanied by the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, and the Government Delegate, José Pablo Sabrido. There, he met with the heads of the emergency teams working on the fires, wishing to acknowledge their "work, effort, dedication and commitment, as well as the fact that they risk their own lives to protect the lives of others".

Sánchez highlighted the importance of cooperation between all levels of government, not only in extinguishing the fire, but also in the recovery effort: "All levels of government are working side by side to tackle the fires". In this regard, he emphasised that the Government of Spain "will be there to provide resources to tackle the fires, as we are doing, but also to provide financial resources for the recovery of the affected areas".

Finally, the president acknowledged the work of the Castilla-La Mancha government, not only in responding to the climate emergency but also in the field of energy transformation, through green hydrogen projects that are flagship initiatives for both the autonomous community and Spain.
