Mayor Brown Releases Statement on Federal Government Shutdown

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown released the following statement on the ongoing federal government shutdown:

"The ongoing federal government shutdown continues to harm the people of Spokane. While Congress is putting politics over people, families in our city are going without their SNAP benefits and are bracing for the increased pressure of rising healthcare costs.

"The deal currently on the table does not solve the problem, it only extends it, and Spokanites deserve better than short-term fixes.

"As a city, we will continue doing what we can to support our community through this uncertainty, but it is past time for Congress to restore stability for the Americans who depend on essential federal programs every day."
