"Artificial Intelligence should not be overestimated, nor should it replace human intelligence, especially in such responsible operations as audits. However, the AI will contribute to the achievement of higher efficiency, transparency and timely control over public resources." This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at a high-level conference "Artificial Intelligence and IT Audit to Protect Public Resources", organized by the National Audit Office of the Republic of Bulgaria. The event is dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the establishment and the 30th anniversary of the reestablishment of the institution.
The Prime Minister emphasized that trust in institutions is the key to the effective management of public funds. "When there is trust in an institution, the community knows that public funds, taxpayers' money, are managed efficiently and with respect for the people," Rossen Jeliazkov pointed out.
The Prime Minister stressed that the Audit Office is not just a symbol of accountability, but also of the moral architecture of statehood which protects the public interest and the trust of citizens. "Ever since the national Liberation down to this day, steady institutions have built statehood and have made the state safe for its citizens," the Prime Minister said further.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov noted, in addition, the importance of the partnership between the National Audit Office and the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) while he pointed out that Bulgaria will host one of the six AI factories in Europe as a proof of the country's potential in innovation and technology.
