SIIA Leads Coalition Letter Raising Concerns About the App Store Freedom Act

SIIA, together with a coalition of technology and innovation organizations, submitted a letter to House Energy & Commerce Committee leadership expressing concerns about H.R. 3209, the App Store Freedom Act. The coalition warns that the bill would introduce significant cybersecurity and privacy risks, particularly for children and teens, by weakening safeguards built into existing app store ecosystems.

Drawing on evidence from the European Union's experience under the Digital Markets Act, the letter explains how mandated app store interoperability has led to increased malware, fraud, and exposure to harmful content. The coalition urges Congress to prioritize policies that strengthen security, protect user privacy, and support innovation rather than adopting regulatory approaches that have proven harmful overseas.
