Minister of Economic Affairs Puisto to lead a Team Finland visit to the US focusing on quantum technology

Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto will lead a Team Finland visit to the US on 15-18 September 2025. The visit will focus on quantum technology. Puisto will be accompanied by a business delegation representing 13 companies and organisations.

During his visit, Minister Puisto will attend the Quantum World Congress near Washington DC where Finland will have its own pavilion. The Congress will bring together leading quantum technology researchers, innovators, decision-makers and companies to promote the development and cooperation in the sector globally. Puisto will meet a number of representatives from the US Administration and representatives of major technology companies such as NVIDIA and Microsoft.

"Quantum technology has become a key field in the international technology competition. Finland has world-class expertise in quantum technologies based on superconductivity, photonics and semiconductors, and in the development of quantum algorithms, both in research and business," says Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto.

"Finland is one of the few countries capable of producing entire quantum computers, and our quantum computing companies are pioneers in the development of powerful quantum algorithms. Our cooperation with the United States has progressed in stages and both sides are ready to deepen the partnership," he adds.

In April 2022, the United States and Finland signed a Joint Statement on Cooperation in Quantum Information Science and Technology. Alongside next-generation telecommunications technologies (NextG) and biotechnology, quantum technology is one of the three key areas of the Finnish-US science and technology cooperation. Finnish research organisations, such as the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, have a long history in cooperating on quantum technology with US peers, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The companies and organisations represented in the business delegation of the Minister of Economic Affairs are: Algorithmiq, Arctic Instruments, Bluefors, Enter Espoo, IQM Finland, Kvanttinova, Modulight, Nokia, Qmill, Quanscient, Semiqon Technologies, the University of Oulu and Vexlum. VTT is also represented at the Finnish Pavilion.
