Tom Jobson has been named chair of Washington State University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
A professor in the department's Laboratory for Atmospheric Research, Jobson has served as interim chair in the department since June.
Jobson's research focuses on air quality field studies, indoor air chemistry, and emissions of volatile organic compounds and greenhouse gases from waste management systems.
He has received national recognition for mentoring and teaching, including the U.S. Department of Energy's Outstanding Mentor Award and the department's Leon Luck Faculty Award for Most Effective Faculty Member.
Before joining WSU in 2005, Jobson worked as a senior research scientist in the Atmospheric Sciences and Global Change Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. His research has supported improved understanding of air pollution processes and their impacts on the environment and public health.
He holds a bachelor's degree from University of Victoria and a PhD in chemistry from York University in Canada.
