Official City Statement: Coyote Sightings at 939-949 N. Spaulding Avenue

The City of West Hollywood has received concerns from community members regarding coyote sightings at an unfinished multi-family residential construction project site located at 939-949 N. Spaulding Avenue.

The City recognizes that residents are understandably concerned about the presence of coyotes and is actively responding to the situation.

The project site is approximately 19,500-square-feet and spans four parcels. Construction of a new 22-unit condominium building halted in 2024 and permits previously issued by the City's Building and Safety Division have since expired.

The City's Neighborhood and Business Safety Division, which oversees animal care and control services in West Hollywood, has been in contact with the property owner's representative to seek immediate action. As with any privately owned property, the owner is responsible for maintaining the site.

The City is requiring the property owner to promptly retain a wildlife control operator that specializes in humane wildlife management to assess the site and recommend appropriate next steps.

The City follows a comprehensive Coyote Management and Coexistence Plan that prioritizes non-lethal management practices.

The City is also coordinating with the Los Angeles County Agricultural Commissioner, which is the primary County-level department that serves to track coyote sightings.

As additional information becomes available and next steps are implemented by the property owner, the City will continue to keep the community informed. Follow www.weho.org/news.
