Renton, Washington resident sentenced to 4+ years in prison for drug trafficking

Seattle - A 40-year-old Renton, Washington man was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Seattle to 50 months in prison for drug trafficking, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Charles Neil Floyd. Davon Malbrough was identified as a member of the "Family Mafia Crips" - a criminal gang profiting off the distribution of controlled substances and sex trafficking with ties to the unlawful possession of firearms and various violent crimes. In 2023, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security Investigations began investigating drug and sex trafficking by members of the gang. Malbrough was spotted repeatedly selling fentanyl and methamphetamine at a homeless encampment in Bellingham, Washington. At the sentencing hearing U.S. District Judge Kymberly K. Evanson said "This is a very serious offense. The defendant distributed highly addictive drugs to highly addicted people."

According to records filed in the case, on several days in July 2023, Malbrough was spotted at a transient encampment in Bellingham that was known to be a hotbed of drug use and other criminal activity. On three different occasions Malbrough sold fentanyl powder and pills to a person working with law enforcement. In December 2023, a traffic stop of Malbrough's Jaguar SUV led to the seizure of 10 grams of pure methamphetamine, 3.5 grams of fentanyl pills, 12.6 grams of fentanyl powder along with two drug scales and $1,250 of drug proceeds.

In October 2025, Malbrough was indicted for possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and two counts of distribution of controlled substances. In June 2026 Malbrough pleaded guilty to possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.

In asking for a 63-month sentence prosecutors wrote to the court, "Malbrough was released from prison in late 2018 following his near 150-month sentence for Assault in the first degree. He ended his term of supervised release on October 18, 2022. Less than one year later, he was selling fentanyl to transients in a homeless encampment and trafficking women for profit. The rapid recidivism shows a heightened risk to community safety."

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Zachary Dilon and Kate Crisham.
