Black Road over I-55 bridge repairs begin Sept. 14

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to the bridge carrying Black Road over the Interstate 55, in Shorewood, will begin, weather permitting, Monday, Sept. 14.

To complete the work, the right lane on eastbound Black Road will be closed approaching the bridge. The public also should expect various overnight lane closures in both directions of I-55 from U.S. 52 (Jefferson Street) to Black Road. At least one lane in each direction will remain open during construction.

In early October, an overnight full closure of the northbound lanes on I-55 will be required to install steel beams over the expressway. The schedule and impacts to traffic will be shared closer to the closure date.

The repairs are expected to be completed in late October. The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
