Representatives from National Statistics Offices in Latin America and the Caribbean Will Meet at ECLAC

Representatives from Latin American and Caribbean countries will address strategies for strengthening institutional capacities in national statistical systems during the twenty-fifth meeting of the Executive Committee of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (SCA-ECLAC), which will be held on 2 and 3 September, 2026 at the regional organization's central office in Santiago, Chile.

During the meeting, authorities will analyze regional progress and challenges regarding the implementation of household surveys, one of the main tools for producing official statistics. They will also examine progress in the execution of the Conference's Biennial Programme of Regional and International Cooperation Activities, 2026-2027.

The meeting will be inaugurated on Wednesday, 2 September at 9:30 a.m. Chile time (GMT -4) by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of ECLAC; and Marcelo Bisogno, Technical Director of the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) of Uruguay, the country serving as Chair of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC.

The Statistical Conference of the Americas is a subsidiary body of ECLAC and the main forum for discussing the development of statistics in the region. Its main mandates are promoting the development and improvement of national statistics and their international comparability, as well as international, regional, and bilateral cooperation between national offices and international and regional organizations.

The SCA's Executive Committee is currently chaired by Uruguay and is composed of Bahamas, Belize, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.
