This weekend, please join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King's vision of justice, equality, and unity continues to inspire our city, and we know that the work of building a more inclusive and united Stamford cannot be done alone. Each of us has a role to play, and by coming together in service, we move closer to Dr. King's vision of a more just and equal society with freedom and justice for all.

Stamford Early Childhood Scholars Initiative: This week, I was excited to join D'Naysha Brown, the City's Early Childhood Coordinator, to announce the Stamford Early Childhood Scholars Initiative-a new scholarship program designed to help families facing financial hardship maintain access to high-quality early childhood education. Every child in Stamford deserves a strong start, and every family deserves support when unexpected challenges arise. Through the initiative, eligible families will receive tuition assistance paid directly to licensed childcare providers, along with individualized support and resources that strengthen Stamford's early childhood system. Intake support is available Saturday from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Stamford Government Center in the 4th floor cafeteria. Applications are due on Friday, January 23 at 6:00 pm. If applicants have questions, they can contact D'Naysha Brown at [email protected].

Public Safety Alert: The Stamford Police Department is urging residents to stay alert following recent home invasions where suspects posed as delivery drivers from well-known companies. Some deliveries are made by third-party contractors who may use unmarked vehicles or deliver early or late. While this can be legitimate, criminals may exploit it to gain access to homes. Safety Tips include:
-
Do not open the door for unexpected deliveries
-
Delivery personnel should never need to enter your home
-
Verify deliveries using a doorbell camera, peephole, or window
-
Ask packages to be left at the door
-
Keep doors locked at all times
-
Trust your instincts-if something feels off, don't engage
-
Report Suspicious Activity: Call 911 if a crime is in progress. Use the Stamford Police non-emergency line to report suspicious behavior: (203)-977-4444. The Stamford Police Department is actively investigating these incidents, and these simple precautions can help keep our community safe.
-
Christmas Tree Pickup: The City will begin Christmas tree pick up next week (January 19th) for condo residents. All trees must be placed on the curb and not on sidewalks or on the road. City crews ask residents to remember that:
-
Trees placed curbside cannot have any decorations on them
-
Trees cannot be placed in plastic bags or wrapped in plastic
-
No brush, grass clippings or bulky waste will be picked up
-
Plastic Christmas trees will not be picked up
