Multiple Bridge Deck Chip Seal Projects Scheduled to Begin in Rapid City Area

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Beginning Monday, Aug. 31, 2026, crews will begin a bridge deck chip seal project at three different locations in the Rapid City area. The bridge deck chip seal projects are planned for the following routes:

• East S.D. Highway 44 in Farmingdale;

• U.S. Highway 16B in Rapid City over the railroad; and

• S.D. Highway 44 (Omaha Street) near Waterloo Street.

The project will consist of repairing concrete and placing a polymer chip seal on the bridges. All operations are weather dependent.

Traffic Impacts:
During the project, traffic on Highway 44 will be controlled with the use of stop signs in each direction with a single lane of travel.

Traffic on Highway 16B and Omaha Street will be reduced to one lane and guided with the use of flaggers.

Motorists should be prepared for suddenly slowed or stopped traffic and be alert of workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.

The prime contractor on the $290,000 project is Louis Company, LLC. of Grain Valley, MO. The overall completion date is Friday, Oct. 16, 2026.
