BOWIE, Md. - Bowie State University and Revolutionary VP Studios today announced a strategic partnership to prepare students for careers in virtual production, immersive media and entertainment technology through hands-on training, internships and industry engagement. The initiative supports Bowie State's new Bachelor of Science in Immersive Media, Entertainment and Gaming (IMEG) program which launched this fall and reflects a shared commitment to developing one of the nation's most comprehensive HBCU-to-industry pipelines for emerging media talent.
"Preparing students for global leadership and success in industries shaping the future is central to our mission," said Dr. Aminta H. Breaux, president of Bowie State University. "This significant collaboration with Revolutionary VP Studios demonstrates our commitment to workforce development, innovation and career readiness. By connecting students directly with emerging technologies, real-world experiences and industry expertise, the university continues to create pathways to high-demand careers while supporting the region's growing creative economy."
"New innovations are rapidly changing our nation's future and economy, and it is up to us to train the next generation for the jobs of the future," said Gov. Wes Moore. "This partnership between Revolutionary VP Studios and Bowie State University is an exciting opportunity for students to learn in a state-of-the-art facility with cutting-edge technology while supporting our state's investments in workforce development, as we build pathways to work, wages and wealth."
"Prince George's County is increasingly recognized as a destination for exceptional dining, entertainment and major local and global events," said Prince George's County Executive Aisha Braveboy. "We are pleased that Revolutionary VP Studios has selected our community to build a world-class production studio featuring advanced LED facilities and sound stages to support film, television commercials, branded content, short-form media, photography and pre-production. Together, these investments strengthen our creative economy and help position Prince George's County as a hub for innovation, content creation and workforce development."
"This collaboration is an investment in the future workforce of the entertainment technology industry," said Zachary Guerra, co-founder of Revolutionary VP Studios. "Bowie State is launching an innovative academic program at a pivotal moment for the industry. Together, we can create meaningful opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience, build professional credentials and pursue careers in emerging media, entertainment technology and digital production. We are proud to help develop the next generation of storytellers, technologists and production leaders."
The IMEG program prepares students for careers in virtual production, gaming, extended reality, animation and digital media by combining creative storytelling with emerging technologies and experiential learning. Through this agreement, students will gain direct access to one of Maryland's newest professional virtual production studios that complements classroom instruction with hands-on industry experience.
"The faculty and staff at Bowie State leverage their expertise along with strong industry connections to create transformative opportunities for our students," added Dr. Breaux. "This alliance is a testament to that commitment, and we are especially grateful to Tewodross Williams, professor and program coordinator of the Visual Communication and Digital Media Arts and IMEG programs, in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, who was instrumental in making this collaboration possible. Through experiences like these, our students gain access to industry leaders, resources and real-world learning opportunities that prepare them for success."
Under the memorandum of understanding, students will have opportunities to participate in training programs covering Unreal Engine, virtual camera tracking, LED volume operations, production design and real-time content creation. The initiative also will provide pathways to paid and academic-credit internships, mentorship opportunities, portfolio development and professional networking opportunities.
Based in Laurel, Maryland, Revolutionary VP Studios is developing a full-service virtual production facility that combines advanced production technologies with professional development initiatives. The agreement will give Bowie State students exposure to active productions while providing faculty members with professional development opportunities to help ensure curriculum remains aligned with evolving industry needs.
"We applaud Bowie State University's partnership with Revolutionary VP Studios," added Braveboy. "This collaboration will provide students in immersive media, entertainment and gaming programs with hands-on industry experience, advanced technical training and meaningful professional development while expanding career pathways and bringing new jobs and opportunities to our community."
The collaboration will serve as a model for engagement between historically Black colleges and universities and entertainment technology companies. In addition to supporting talent pipeline development, the effort seeks to expand access to careers in virtual production, visual effects and immersive media while helping address longstanding diversity gaps across the industry.
A joint advisory committee composed of representatives from both organizations will oversee implementation, evaluate progress and identify opportunities for future growth. Initial work will focus on developing training pathways, internship opportunities and studio-based learning experiences for students enrolled in the IMEG program.
