HONOLULU, Feb. 16, 2026 - Due to high winds, low humidity levels and ongoing drought conditions in Maui and Hawaii counties, Hawaiian Electric is closely monitoring weather conditions that could affect its service territories. If necessary, Hawaiian Electric may implement its Public Safety Power Shutoff program within the next 24 hours and proactively shut off power in communities with high exposure to wildfire risk, such as West Maui and South Kohala on Hawaii Island. Customers in these areas are urged to initiate their own emergency plans and prepare for the possibility of extended power outages.

Current outages are not related to the company's PSPS program.

What we're doing

At Hawaiian Electric, our PSPS emergency response plan includes:

  • Closely monitoring weather
  • Coordinating with state and county emergency response officials
  • Pre-positioning Hawaiian Electric crews and their equipment at strategic locations to speed restoration
  • Urging customers to prepare for possible power outages with safety as their main focus

How you can prepare

Safety is always Hawaiian Electric's top priority. We urge customers to make it their top priority, too. Review the steps to prepare for a possible PSPS on our website, which includes information for customers with medical needs as well as what all customers can do before, during and after a PSPS.
