On the SCO Digital Economy Forum

The SCO Digital Economy Forum was held in Urumqi, the People's Republic of China, from 14 to 16 September 2026 under the theme "Promoting SCO Data Connectivity, Shaping the Future with AI".
Organized by the National Data Administration of the People's Republic of China and the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the event drew around 500 participants, including representatives from governments, relevant agencies, business, expert and civil society circles of SCO countries.
On the SCO Digital Economy Forum
Chen Xiaojiang, Secretary of the CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Committee, delivered welcoming remarks to the Forum participants.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sohail Khan noted that the digital agenda is becoming increasingly intertwined with trade, investment, entrepreneurship and innovation. He pointed out that the launch of the China-SCO Digital Economy Cooperation Platform in Tianjin represents a practical outcome in this field.

The Deputy Secretary-General also took part in the thematic forum on digital connectivity. He observed that the interconnectedness of SCO countries today is ensured not only by transport routes and infrastructure but also by digital systems. He emphasized that the 2026 Bishkek Declaration marking the 25th anniversary of the SCO reaffirms member states' intention to develop cross-border e-commerce infrastructure, cut costs and strengthen trust among entrepreneurs.
