ARROYO GRANDE, CA - The Mason Street Bridge will be temporarily closed to all traffic from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, to allow for the emergency removal of a 60-foot tree that fell on private property immediately adjacent to the Bridge. The tree is leaning on the Bridge structure and poses a risk to utility systems attached to the Bridge.
The property owner is required to remove the tree, which will require a crane to operate from the bridge deck to pull the tree out of Arroyo Grande Creek. To ensure safety during this operation, the City will implement traffic control measures, including message boards and detour signage beginning Wednesday morning.
On Sunday morning, October 5, 2025, the top of the tree canopy extended into the roadway and was removed by City crews. Following inspections, no damage was observed to the bridge structure.
To minimize community impacts, closure times have been scheduled outside of peak traffic and school drop-off hours. City crews will be on-site throughout the operation to provide traffic control, monitor the tree removal, protect City utility lines, and respond to any issues that may arise.
The City appreciates the community's patience and cooperation during this emergency work.
