Norway is sending three representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Armed Forces to Israel to gather information and enhance situational awareness regarding the activities of the Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) for Gaza.
After two years of war, there is an enormous need to provide humanitarian assistance, remove debris and rebuild Gaza. The purpose of the CMCC is to facilitate the flow of information and ensure effective coordination of aid to the Palestinians in Gaza. The CMCC, which was established as part of the follow-up to the ceasefire agreement and President Trump's 20-point plan, is under US leadership.
The Norwegian personnel will be gathering information about the CMCC's activities and the broader situation. They are not formally affiliated with the CMCC. They will report to the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Norwegian Armed Forces and the Norwegian embassies in the region.
It is too early to say whether Norway will provide personnel to the CMCC on a permanent basis. The UN has already deployed personnel to the CMCC, and a number of countries have sent personnel on similar information-gathering missions. Norway considers it vital that humanitarian aid to Gaza is delivered in line with international humanitarian law and the humanitarian principles. The aid should also lead to tangible improvements on the ground in Gaza and be aligned with the priorities of the Palestinian Government.
