Pedestrian improvements coming to University Drive

Beginning the week of Aug. 10, 2026, the Ada County Highway District will implement a number of measures to improve safety at the crosswalks on University Drive. These changes are meant to increase the safety of pedestrians crossing the roadway by providing better visual clues for drivers and cyclists that they are approaching a crossing. The changes will also make the crossings easier to identify for pedestrians.

The changes include:

• Addition of candlestick delineators on the sides of the crosswalk at Theater Lane in the middle lane section of the road, acting like a pedestrian island on University Drive.
• Addition of candlestick delineators at the start of crosswalks on the south side of University Drive, acting like "bump outs" to indicate the crossing.
• Removal of crosswalk from Bronco Circle to the Recreation Center. The crosswalks in front of the Bronco Shop and Boulder Hall will remain to access the Recreation Center from the north.

It is a top priority for the university to ensure safety on campus and in the neighborhoods surrounding University Drive. Projects to increase safety for all users will continue in partnership with the Ada County Highway District and other stakeholders.
