Body of Missing Boater Recovered

YORK, Maine - The Maine Marine Patrol along with York Fire Department rescue swimmers recovered the body of 84-year-old Chester Benjamin Wiggins of Bedford, Massachusetts at approximately 1:30 p.m. today.

Mr. Wiggin's body was located 150 feet from shore off Ocean Avenue Extension in York by a witness who reported it.

His body has been transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.

A search for Mr. Wiggins began Wednesday when his overturned 17-foot Boston Whaler was found in the afternoon by a local resident on the shore near the Cape Neddick Nubble Light. Mr. Wiggins was last seen Tuesday evening aboard his boat in Cape Neddick Harbor.

The search continued over the past two days with today's search involving members of the Marine Patrol, York Police and Fire Departments, and the York County Emergency Management Agency's Drone Team.

Marine Patrol will investigate the cause of this incident in the coming weeks.
