Lifting Public Health Voices: National Public Health Week at ASPPH

April 8, 2026

As National Public Health Week comes to a close, ASPPH is pleased to highlight two important initiatives that elevated the voices and impact of academic public health throughout the week. Earlier this week, ASPPH hosted an ASPPH Presents webinar, TIPH Ambassador Alumni: Share Your Public Health Story, showcasing the experiences and perspectives of emerging public health leaders. In addition, ASPPH launched the IDEA Exchange Podcast, with its inaugural episode hosted by Miranda Bosse and featuring ASPPH President and CEO Dr. Laura Magaña. Together, these efforts underscore the importance of storytelling and innovation in advancing public health and engaging the next generation of leaders.

Recordings of both offerings are available for those who were unable to join live or who would like to revisit the conversations. The webinar can be accessed on the event page. The IDEA Exchange Podcast is available on Spotify and YouTube.

In the inaugural episode of the IDEA Exchange Podcast, Dr. Laura Magaña shares her perspective on the evolving role of schools and programs of public health, emphasizing the importance of innovation, collaboration, and adaptability in addressing today's complex health challenges. Reflecting on the urgency of this moment, Dr. Magaña notes, "Innovation is no longer optional, it's essential to keep advancing the health and wellbeing of everyone everywhere." Listeners are invited to explore the full conversation and to stay tuned for future episodes highlighting leaders and ideas shaping the future of academic public health.

In the recent ASPPH Presents webinar, TIPH Ambassador Alumni: Share Your Public Health Story, former ambassadors reflected on the experiences that shaped their public health journeys. Moderated by Lady Dorothy Elli, MPH, the panel featured Jared Christian, MPH; Fatoumata Diallo, MPH; Hayat Naqvi, MPH; Mitch Ryba, MPH, CHES; and Meredith Smith, MPH. Panelists shared insights on how they discovered public health, the diverse career pathways available across the field, and the practical skills developed through their training, including data analysis, program planning, policy, and community engagement. The conversation highlighted the power of storytelling in inspiring the next generation of public health leaders.

Together, these initiatives reflect ASPPH's commitment to elevating voices, sharing knowledge, and strengthening the academic public health community. In doing so, they provided meaningful opportunities to celebrate and advance the spirit of National Public Health Week.
