On Tuesday, January 27th, Minister of National Defence, Radu Miruță, had a meeting at the Ministry of National Defence headquarters, with a delegation of the United States Congress, led by Congressman Pat Fallon.

The dialogue highlighted the relevance of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States of America, as well as its contribution to regional and Euro-Atlantic security. Cooperation within NATO and the American military presence in Romania were mentioned as important elements of collective defence.

In this context, the officials mentioned that both the United States of America and Romania had published national strategic documents in the field of security and defence that outline the priorities and general action plan in the field for each state.

The talks also focused on recent developments in the regional and Euro-Atlantic security environment, with focus on the implications of the war in Ukraine, the security of the Allied Eastern Flank and the strategic role of the Black Sea region. The importance of maintaining a consolidated deterrence and defence posture, adapted to the current security challenges, was also highlighted.

The prospects of Romanian-American defence cooperation were also addressed, with emphasis on political-military dialogue, interoperability and capability development, in support of regional and Euro-Atlantic security.
