Garth Brooks Surprises Crowd At Secret Show, Revives '33-Year-Old Pseudonym, Yukon Jack'

Garth Brooks surprised a crowd at a local dive bar when he took the stage on Thursday evening (September 3).

Brooks, 64, brought back the "33-year-old pseudonym, Yukon Jack," to take the stage at the Grizzly Rose, which he names in "The Old Stuff," in Denver, Colorado. The "surprise - and experience - of a lifetime" marked an unofficial kickoff to Brooks' "Blame It All On My Roots Too" performances in Denver, beginning with his show on Friday night (September 4), according to a press release from the country star. Brooks explained that many fans "caught the hint," when they noticed Yukon Jack would perform on Ladies Night at the Grizzly Rose. About 2,000 fans made it into the venue after waiting in line for hours.

"From the very start, we knew this was going to be the best night we have ever had in a honky-tonk," Brooks said in the release. "Never seen anything like it." The Yukon Jack revival stems back to 1993. Brooks played a show under the stage name in Clovis, New Mexico, while he was on his way to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Yukon Jack began playing for fewer than a dozen people until word got out and the crowd grew. "We hadn't played a bar in a long time at that point. We wanted to get back to how that felt. …By the time we finished, the place was full of people who just came from their houses - wet hair, pajama tops, etc. There was one pay phone in the place, and people were lined up to use it.

"Playing honky-tonks ALWAYS reminds me that is where Garth music came from, and where it belongs."

Brooks brought back Yukon Jack as he continues his highly-anticipated arena tour, returning to the massive venues after his historic run of shows in the '90s. See the full list of announced tour dates:
