Hoyer Statement Condemning Trump's Remarks on the Iran War
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's posts on Truth Social and his remarks during a press conference on the war in Iran:
"This morning's remarks from the President of the United States shows how dangerous his judgement and state of mind really are. His threats to eradicate Iranian civilization require all Americans to think carefully about whether he can be trusted with the enormous power of the American presidency. No U.S. leader, nor any leader of a democracy, should use the language of genocidal tyrants. That must not be who we are as a nation, and it does not represent who we have ever been.
"His comments with reference to NATO are also shameful, unacceptable, and untrue. Every responsible leader and citizen should be outraged at the comments this President continues to make. The Congress, Republicans and Democrats, should reject these irresponsible, dangerous, false, and morally repugnant comments.
"Instead of making unhinged threats online, the President should explain clearly to the American people and Congress how he intends to bring this operation to a close."
