CDOT, Thornton & Broomfield celebrate completion of fourth mobility hub on I-25 north

Thornton - The Colorado Department of Transportation, and representatives from the City of Thornton, the City and County of Broomfield and Adams County cut the ribbon on the fourth mobility hub at Interstate 25 and CO 7, a facility that will provide people in northern Colorado with additional transit options and connections to other locations across the state.

"We can see here how much this area of the state has grown over the years, and by connecting our Bustang system to the Highway 7 corridor, we can better serve these new and growing communities and provide additional travel options for people to conveniently connect to other cities and towns in Colorado, as well as employment centers, entertainment spots and cultural facilities," said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew.

Bustang service begins at this location on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Mobility hubs are designed to be strategically located and reduce a person's reliance on their private vehicle, allowing them to easily and safely transition to another mode of transportation. The goal is to simplify travel, reduce wait times, improve safety, and make for a more pleasant travel experience.

The CO 7/I-25 Mobility Hub not only provides access to Bustang's North Line, Ramsroute, and Bustang to Broncos but also to local transit systems connecting Broomfield, Boulder and Brighton. Three other CDOT mobility hubs currently are operating along I-25 to the north - at Firestone-Longmont, Berthoud and Centerra-Loveland.

"This hub will initially accommodate 156 vehicles, with the ability to double its size to 312 vehicles," said CDOT's Region One Transportation Director Jessica Myklebust. "It'll also has slip ramps next to the main I-25 ramps, allowing people to safely enter or exit the buses. Those ramps also allow Bustang to exit and reenter I-25 with minimal delay."

Other improvements include:

• Pedestrian bridge over I-25, providing safe access to the southbound ramp
• Bus shelters
• Bike storage station
• New traffic signals at I-25/CO 7 ramps
• Code Blue Emergency Phones
• Additional sidewalks
• Permanent water quality pond

"When the Commission and CDOT prioritized state funds for mobility hubs across the state, the planning began to build the necessary infrastructure to meet the transportation needs of the 21st century," said Colorado Transportation Commissioner Carl Castillo. "Our current mobility hubs, the one we're opening here today, and the ones we're going to construct in the next several years, will play a critical role in shaping our transportation future."

CDOT's next mobility hub is scheduled to open along I-25 in Lone Tree this fall. Additional hubs are planned for Monument, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Idaho Springs, Grand Junction and Fairplay.
