S. Korea and Mongolia Modernise 10-Year-Old Agricultural Pact
Sejong, 8 July 2026 - Minister Song Miryung of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) is to visit Mongolia from 8 to 9 July. The Republic of Korea and Mongolia have maintained close agricultural cooperation, particularly through the implementation of Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity.
On 8 July, Minister Song will meet Minister Iderbat Tsagaankhuu of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector. Minister Song will highlight the significance of revising and renewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation for the first time in ten years since its initial signing in 2016, thereby broadening the scope of cooperation between the two countries. Minister Song will also highlight the achievements of Korea's ODA projects in Mongolia's livestock and veterinary sectors, and express her hope that Korean fresh agricultural produce will become more widely available to Mongolian consumers.
Mongolia has emerged as a promising market for K-Food, with exports increasing by approximately 16% over the past five years (2020-2025). During her visit, Minister Song will introduce Korea's ssam (fresh vegetable wraps) culture and seasonal fruit desserts to Mongolian consumers. She will also meet young Mongolian consumers at a Korean-style convenience store to sample ready-to-eat meals prepared with Korean ingredients and exchange views on K-Food.
