I-30 eastbound traffic pattern in Texarkana to change later this week, weather permitting

When crews complete the demolition of the Farm to Market road (FM) 989/Kings Highway bridge later this week, weather permitting, Interstate 30 (I-30) eastbound will reopen with a new traffic pattern.

Eastbound I-30 local and thru traffic will split west of FM 989 / Kings Highway and have the following options:

• Exit 217 (newly constructed just west of FM 2148) will allow motorists to access FM 989 / Kings Highway, FM 2148 north and south, and Pecan Street

• Exit 218 will allow motorists to access all other Texarkana locations east of Pecan Street

• Left thru lane will have no exit in Texarkana, Texas

Northbound Interstate 369 (I-369) / U.S. Highway (U.S.) 59 north traffic will have the following options:

• Eastbound I-30 motorists will use the existing connector bridge with no exit in Texarkana, Texas

• Exit 114 B / Richmond Road will allow access to Texarkana destinations via the frontage road

Westbound I-30 lanes will be restored to two, traditional side-by-side travel lanes with all exit and entrance ramps open. Once construction to widen the interstate is complete, three lanes will be open in each direction. This traffic pattern will be in place through phase 3, which is expected to be completed late summer 2027.

• Slow down. Follow the posted speed limit and never drive faster than what is safe for road conditions. Excessive speed is a leading cause of work zone crashes.

• Pay attention. Avoid distractions, keep your mind on the road and put your phone away.

• Watch out for road crews. Roadside workers want to get home safely, too. Always follow instructions and be mindful of construction area road signs.

• Don't tailgate. Traffic in work zones can slow suddenly so give yourself room to stop in a hurry. Rear-end collisions are the most common type of work zone crashes.

• Allow extra time. Road construction can slow things down. Count on it and plan for it.
