The Conference "Central Asia - the Core of the SCO" takes place in Dushanbe
On June 12, 2026, an international conference titled "Central Asia - the Core of the SCO: A Space of Peace and Shared Development" was held in Dushanbe on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, and the SCO Center for Friendship and Cooperation in Tajikistan.

Opening the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, noted that Central Asia objectively plays a system-forming role, shaping the sustainable core of the Organisation and giving impetus to its evolution. The Minister emphasized that the strengthening of Central Asia directly contributes to the strengthening of the SCO, and the progressive development of the region is becoming one of the most important factors in enhancing the Organisation's effectiveness.

In his video address to the participants, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev noted that the Central Asian states make a significant contribution to the development of cooperation in key areas of the Organisation's activities - from ensuring security and stability to economic and humanitarian interaction. The Secretary-General expressed gratitude to the Tajik side for actively promoting the theme of Central Asia as a key region of the SCO.

The conference was attended by deputy foreign ministers of Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan, high-ranking delegates from Iran and Pakistan, as well as the First Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, heads of executive bodies of ESCAP, RCCA, CICA, ECO, CIS, CSTO, FAO, and UNESCO, and representatives of the SCO Secretariat and the Executive Committee of the RATS SCO.
