WHO: Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) and Village of River Grove
WHAT: MWRD, in partnership with the Village of River Grove, will have a ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of an environmentally sustainable parking lot at the River Grove Village Hall
WHERE: River Grove Village Hall, 2621 N. Thatcher Ave., River Grove, Ill.
WHEN: Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 11 a.m.
MWRD and River Grove officials will unveil a new green infrastructure project designed to help mitigate flooding and improve area water quality after a summer of heavy rains.
The project transformed the previous impervious parking lot into a green infrastructure system that uses permeable pavers to allow rainwater to move through the surface and into layers of stone, filter fabric and underdrains, where stormwater can be captured and managed.
The new parking lot is designed to retain nearly 100,000 gallons of stormwater per year, the equivalent of approximately 2,500 standard bathtubs.
