Rep. Fitzgerald Votes to Reopen Government After Partial Shutdown

February 3, 2026

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement after voting to pass the Senate Amendment to H.R. 7148 - Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026, legislation to end the partial government shutdown.

"I'm extremely disappointed the SAVE Act was not included in the final funding package, and I remain fully committed to supporting it when it comes up for a separate vote. Election security is critical to delivering results for Wisconsin families.

"However, reopening the government was absolutely necessary as a prolonged shutdown does not help the country.

"This shutdown occurred because Democrats are demonizing ICE. ICE agents put their lives on the line every day and are working tirelessly to enforce our immigration laws and keep our communities safe.

"I look forward to working with President Trump to deliver Homeland Security funding and election security."
