FEMA is Still Here Helping Hoosiers with Their Recovery

Although the deadline to apply for FEMA assistance from the August 2026 storms has passed, FEMA is still available to help applicants. FEMA will continue to offer in-person support to assist applicants with document uploads, answer questions about recovery programs, receive and manage appeals, and conduct home inspections.

Visit on.in.gov/august2026disaster to find locations for in-person support. Staff at the FEMA Helpline are also available to answer questions. Survivors can speak with someone by calling 800-621-3362 and they can check their application status by visiting DisasterAssistance.gov.

Staying in Touch

Survivors who applied for FEMA assistance should continue to stay in touch with the agency to update their application. Missing or outdated material could result in delays. Information that may need to be updated includes:

  • Current housing situation, phone number or mailing address.
  • The name of a person designated to speak for you, if needed.
  • Names of household members and number of people living in the home.
  • Correcting or verifying home and property damage.
  • Insurance settlement or denial letter.
  • Payment preferences.

It is important to make sure all contact information is current. FEMA may call survivors to schedule an inspection of the damaged home or to obtain more information to process the application. These calls may come from unfamiliar area codes or phone numbers.

Survivors should answer these calls or return any missed phone calls. An applicant who misses these calls will need to call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362.

Disaster survivors who feel they have been discriminated against based on race, color, nationality, sex, religion, age, disability, English proficiency, or economic status have the right to file a complaint by contacting FEMA at [email protected] or by calling 1-800-621-3362.
