The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), is encouraging community members to safely dispose of unused or expired medications during DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The initiative serves as a reminder: When it comes to unused prescription drugs-clean them out, keep them safe, and take them back.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., CSPD will support multiple convenient drop-off locations across the city where residents can anonymously dispose of medications with no questions asked.
Drug Take Back Locations:
Unused prescription drugs left in homes can pose serious risks. They are a leading source of accidental poisoning, misuse, and addiction-especially among children, teens, and vulnerable individuals. Keeping unused medications increases the chance they may be taken improperly, shared, or stolen.
Proper disposal is a simple but powerful step in preventing substance misuse and protecting families and communities. Flushing medications or throwing them in the trash can also harm the environment, making take-back events the safest and most responsible option.
"National Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient way for our community to remove potentially dangerous medications from their homes," said CSPD Sergeant Jeffrey Ma. "This effort helps reduce the risk of misuse and supports overall public safety."
CSPD and the DEA encourage all residents to take a few minutes to check their medicine cabinets and participate in this important event.
