DENVER - Colorado Governor Jared Polis honored former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi upon announcing her retirement from Congress. Gov. Polis previously served alongside Speaker Pelosi in the United States Congress for ten years and worked with her to pass transformational laws like the Affordable Care Act, the Every Student Succeeds Act, ending Don't Ask Don't Tell, helping the United States rebound from economic hardships, and protecting American democracy.
"I am grateful for Speaker Pelosi's friendship, leadership, and the dignity with which Nancy has served our country. As our nation's first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi not only shattered the marble ceiling, history will remember her as one of this country's most effective Speakers of the House and a brilliant strategist who never lost sight of who she was fighting for. Under her leadership we expanded health care, expanded civil rights, expanded educational opportunities and saved people money. Nancy Pelosi mentored many members of her caucus to be effective representatives, myself included, and inspired generations of Americans to achieve their full potential and thrive. While Nancy was the first woman to serve as House Speaker, she certainly won't be the last," said Colorado Governor Jared Polis.
