Alaska Awards $17.7 Million to Strengthen Transmission Infrastructure

On April 13, 2026, the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) announced its investment of $17.7 million in three transmission infrastructure projects in the state. The projects selected are intended to strengthen and reinforce transmission reliability to fortify the grid against potential disturbances. The three awardees, Golden Valley Electric Association, Matanuska Electric Association, and the Southeast Alaska Power Agency, were granted up to $7 million each. AEA financed these projects using Grid Resilience Formula Grant Program funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and $2.6 million from the Alaska State Legislature.
