'Southern University Day at the Capitol' promotes advocacy, awareness of impactful research

On Tuesday, March 31, Southern University System faculty, staff, students, alumni, administration, and supporters convened at the Louisiana State Capitol for "Southern University Day at the Capitol," a day of advocacy and engagement, highlighting the mission, impact, and future of the System.

All five campuses of the System were represented - Southern University and A&M College, Southern University Law Center, Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Southern University at New Orleans, and Southern University at Shreveport. Students and faculty presented research in the rotunda, while connecting with state legislators and other participants. A resolution proclaiming Southern University Day at the Capitol was read on the House and Senate floors during session presentations.

The event at the Capitol was preceded by a pre-reception and the official opening of Southern's new Welcome Center.

Earlier in March, Southern's five campuses participated in HBCU Day at the Capitol, presented by the HBCU Advisory Council of the Louisiana Board of Regents. The event, which was held at the Capitol Area Museum, featured displays on the impact that Historically Black Colleges and Universities, along with their partners, have on workforce development in Louisiana.
